Reflections Scholarship Recipients
“I have lived with a chronic and persistent eating disorder that systematically quieted my voice to near silence. I am proud to say, with my voice at top volume, that I am a recipient of a 2023 scholarship from The Looking Glass Foundation, a community that has been as long-lasting in support as the challenges I’ve faced. I look forward to a career as a nurse and to be able to give back to a foundation that is very close to my heart. The Looking Glass Foundation has been with me during my toughest days and I’m truly honored to have them during my most proud.”

“It is an honor to be chosen as one of the recipients of the 2023 Looking Glass Refection scholarships. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to represent the foundation. Before this application, I had personally never written about my recovery, so this has been an excellent experience for me to use my voice, share my story and reflect on how far I have come in hopes of inspiring others to do the same. Everyone’s experience and timing of progress will be different but knowing that recovery is possible and that you are not alone in what you are feeling is a message that I will continue to spread. Recovery to me is a stage of growth. Some days are a struggle, some are amazing, and some take perseverance, but through all the hardship comes the gift of learning what it takes to become a better version of yourself.”

“My time in Looking Glass was a life changing experience that I can honestly say without, I would not be where I am today. Looking Glass gave me the gift of life, and now has given me the gift of pursuing my education. My educational goals of working with eating disorders through nursing have been largely influenced by my time in Looking Glass where I dream of helping others through healthcare the way Looking Glass did for me. This generous gift is secondary to only the chance I was offered at a life free from my eating disorder. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for this scholarship, and the peace, strength, and friendship the program blessed me with. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all you do, and I intend to use this in a way the organization would be proud of.”

“I am truly honoured and deeply grateful to be the recipient of a 2023/2024 Academic Scholarship. As a mature student who has embarked on a career change from the Film Industry to Social Work, this scholarship acknowledges the challenges I’ve faced and the strides I’ve taken to overcome them. As a person who contends with invisible disabilities that have made school a daunting endeavour, your recognition of my work and passion for self and community advocacy means the world to me. The Looking Glass Foundation programs have been like a touchstone, reminding me of my resilience with their commitment to care, community, and support encouraging me to embrace my inner knowledge of when to slow down and seek guidance. More than just financial assistance, your scholarship has given me a profound sense of being seen and valued. I am incredibly moved by your foundation and all those who are connected to it; with their commitment to empowering others in their lives. I look forward to combining my life experiences, skills and educational development as a way to pay it forward to others.”
