Eating Disorder Awareness Week (EDAW) is a collective effort that runs annually from February 1-7, commemorating a national focus to raise awareness and action the causes, prevalence and impact of eating disorders.
This year's campaign: Breaking Barriers, Facilitating Futures aims to focus our attention on under-recognized barriers that people face when accessing care for their eating disorders, which contribute to ongoing cycles of shame and struggle.
This year's theme and surrounding education materials were developed in partnership with NEDIC and eating disorder organizations across the country to better inform our communities, care providers and healthcare systems of these challenges, offering strategies born from lived experience that aim to facilitate future dialogue, healthcare practice, and outcomes that meet the needs of all who are affected.
Here are some ways you can get involved in #EDAW2024:
Learning & Community Opportunities
Online & Community Education Events
Head over to our national EDAW education partner NEDIC’s EDAW 2024 Event Page for a full listing of the week’s educational opportunities and community events taking place virtually and in person across Canada.
Our friends at Jessie's Legacy will be hosting a special EDAW episode with honoured guest, Dr. Josie Geller, Research Director at St. Paul's Hospital, focusing on how validation builds self-compassion for people with eating disorders. Check back here for the link to tune in after the Feb 1 release date!
Online Community Rooms
In these virtual, 2-hour interactive Community Rooms hosted by NEDIC, people with living and lived experience with an eating disorder will have the opportunity to collectively map their journeys and share with others across the country with similar experiences.
By engaging with our EDAW 2024 partners, you’re helping raise crucial awareness and funds that allow us to continue to provide community members with compassionate, low-barrier eating disorder care they may not otherwise have access to.
